Through my involvement with the American Association of Safety Engineers ("ASSE") in Baton Rouge, I am often asked for advice on how to prepare for a career in safety. If you are new to safety, here is a short list of resources and organizations in the Baton Rouge area that can help you prepare for a career as a safety professional.
Professional Safety Certifications
- Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) - The CSP is the most prestigious credential in safety, but also look at the OHST, or CHST.
- Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) is offered through the Alliance Safety Council and is the shortest route to a credential in safety.
Professional Safety Associations
- Join the American Society of Safety Engineers - largest and oldest professional safety association. Attend your local chapter monthly meetings to network with other safety professionals. The Baton Rouge chapter meets monthly.
